Daniel: Mission title defense!
Daniel Weichel vs. Yuri Ivlev 2 – what a screamer in “the Weasel´s” first title defense…
Daniel will enter the M-1 Ring as the reigning lightweight champion on May 17th, when the “M-1 Challenge 32” is set to take place at the “Crocus City Arena” in Moscow.
In November, Daniel succeeded in a sensational knockout victory over the former Lightweight-Champion Jose Figueroa. He was able to knock down his opponent with a right overhand before he finished the fight with devastating ground and pound, after only two minutes in the first round.
Now, none other than Yuri Ivlev will try to dethrone our new crowned Champion. Even if Daniel could beat him once before, a fight against “mini Fedor” is a true challenge for every fighter. Daniel himself describes his last Bout against the “Cable Guy”, as the hardest fight of his career. The victory over Yuri in October 2010, can definitely be defined as Daniel´s breakthrough in M-1, because he entered the Ring as the Underdog. Daniel was able to control the fight in the stand up and landed numerous hard punches, knees and kicks before the fight was stopped, due to a cut, in the third round.
Ivlev won 8 of his last 10 fights, and only lost to the MMA Spirit top fighters Daniel and Mairbek.
Nevertheless “The Weasel” will show why he is the number 1. Lightweight in Europe and has already started his preparation.
