MMA Spirit reigns supreme in Iasi/Romania!
The weekend ended with two impressive victories scored by our top fighters Beckan and Christian at the “Eurogames FC” in Iasi/Romania.
Everything went well for our fighters although the weekend started with some difficulties, speaking of the weight problems of Christian´s opponent Ion Cojocaru and the eight hours trip via bus to the hotel from Bucarest´s airport.
The event was aired live and late at night on the “Sportkanal National” having started at 12 pm- and it was Beckan who entered the cage to face his opponent Luca Poclit. It was all the way our young lightweight to push the fight from the bell as he hit his opponent´s lead leg with hard lowkicks and kept pressing him backwards. Poclit was able to survive the first real scare in form of devastating straight right- but he couldn´t take the second power punch, that made him hit the canvas face down. It was further punishment inflictet on him via ground and pound- and the referee didn´t see him tap- so the fight unecessarily continued for a couple more seconds until the towl was thrown in the cage.
It was Christian who took the honors to participate in the last fight of the evening, where he did brillantly to enter the semifinals of the 8 men welterweight tournament with a thrilling first round triangle choke submission win. Christian started with some solid jabs only to throw a hard left hook in the first open striking exchange that definitily hurt hist opponent who came pushing forward, but was easily thrown to the mat as Christian postured up, starting some hard ground and pound, after defending a triangle and armbar attempt. Cojocaru took his chance to get back to his feet only to give away his back for a second- but Christian lost control and ended on his own back which made no difference as he directly worked for armbar only to transition it into a beautiful text book triangle choke, which left his opponent with no other choice than to tap out. But it was again the referee who had the last word as he didn´t stop the fight, only after Cojocaru was already unconscious.
Never the less- it were two more great victories for Team MMA Spirit who celebrated around Daniel Weichel, Dennis Siver, Bruno Carvalho, Arbi Aguev, Hassan Topal and Niels Schlaegel.
